The a-EMA IgA (anti-endomysial antibodies IgA) test is a blood test used to diagnose celiac disease. These antibodies are produced by the immune system in people with celiac disease in response to gluten. Elevated levels of a-EMA IgA are strongly associated with the presence of celiac disease, and the test is often used to confirm the diagnosis, especially in combination with other tests such as aTG IgA. The a-EMA IgA test is highly specific for celiac disease and helps determine if further diagnostic steps, such as a small intestine biopsy, are needed.
