The examination includes the detection of specific antibodies (VCA IgM, VCA IgG, EBNA IgG, EA IgG) or viral DNA, allowing differentiation between acute, recent, or past infection. The test is recommended in cases of suspected infectious mononucleosis or for patients with a weakened immune system.
