The IgG and IgM antibody test against herpes simplex virus (a-HSV) from blood is a diagnostic test that detects the presence of antibodies against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) in the blood.

This test is used to determine whether a person has been or is infected with one or both types of herpes simplex virus.

HSV-1 is usually associated with oral herpes (cold sores), while HSV-2 is more commonly associated with genital herpes, although both types can cause infections in any area of the body.
