    The PCR test for whooping cough is a laboratory examination used to detect the Bordetella pertussis bacterium, the cause of whooping cough.

    This test is suitable for confirming infection in the first three weeks of illness. Unlike the IgA/IgG antibody test for whooping cough, which is suitable for later stages of the disease, the PCR test identifies the infection early on.

    A sample for the PCR test is collected with a swab from the back of the nasopharynx. Collection is available for children aged five and older.

    The PCR test for whooping cough is a laboratory test used to detect Bordetella pertussis, the causative agent of whooping cough.

    This test is most reliable in the first three weeks of illness, when the concentration of bacteria in the body is highest.

    The sample for the PCR test is obtained by swabbing the back of the nasopharynx.

    Individuals who exhibit typical symptoms of whooping cough, especially if the cough persists for more than two weeks, and especially if coughing fits accompanied by a characteristic sound are present.

    Individuals who have been in close contact with a person diagnosed with whooping cough, regardless of the presence of symptoms, especially in the home, school, or care of young children.
